Preparing for the next International Exposure Week in Ethiopia

Lake Hawassa

We are currently preparing the details for our next International Exposure Week (IEW) in Ethiopia, which will take place at the beginning of February 2019. After having successfully tried out a new concept last year, which focuses more on the individual needs of the business teams and not so much on the production of a business plan, we will go on with this new approach and only do some fine-tuning on the concept in order to make it even more successful.
As last year, the Ethiopian start-up week takes already place in summer, so that the new teams can work in the incubator from September 2018 to February 2019 and will be ready for a week of intensive collaboration.
Tentatively, the following ideas from different departments of Hawassa University’s Institute of Technology will be part of the Ethiopian start-up week and if successful also participate in the IEW in 2019:

  1. Maintenance Service for Wheelchairs
  2. Handbags for heavy duty purpose
  3. Pelleting machines (for co2 friendly fuel)
  4. Distillation machine (water for hospital usage)
  5. Ray meter (distance meter) for construction sites
  6. Veine discovering lamp/ tool for medical purpose
  7. Floor cleaning  machine for indoor use (super markets, hospitals etc.)

For European participants we plan to start the recruitment and selection as from September 2018. We would like to gather a diverse team of 8 – 14 participants. Ideally, we are looking for people who fulfill one or several of the following criteria:
Curious personality, ready to work intensively in a culturally quite different environment
Theoretical or practical knowledge in a topic, which is relevant for start-up business (business model, creative thinking/ design thinking, customer relations, marketing, presentation skills, self-organisation and team management, finance etc.)
We would love to have at least 1-2 people with a technical educational background (engineering or technical vocational training)
We would also like to have at least 1-2 people, which have been or are an entrepreneur
